Kit Checklist - Including the bits you didn't expect
Here are some essentials we use for competions:
Pins—seriously, bring them. Competition numbers do not attach themselves.
Your competition top, your number and any accreditation or identification required.
Any medication you need, kept accessible and in its original packaging.
A medication list, prescription copy or other required supporting documents.
A phone reminder if competing in several events - A PB will distract you enough to miss your next event call up!
Chalk, if you use it and competition rules permit it.
If any chance at all of rain - i.e. always have these handy
An old towel for drying wet implements, shoes and hands.
A carrier bag or waterproof cover to keep a dry warm-up discus protected while waiting.
A large plastic bag to protect your kit bag when its claim to be “waterproof” proves optimistic.
Cling film to protect the javelin binding one you dry it
A separate bag for wet clothing and muddy shoes.
A spike key, spare spikes and spare laces for your throwing or javelin shoes.
A tape measure and your usual permitted runway marker. Check the event rules before using pegs or other markers.
Resistance bands for your normal warm-up routine.
Depending on he conditions
Disposable hand warmers if cold conditions affect your grip.
Warm layers, waterproof clothing, a hat and spare socks
Sun cream, a sun hat and sunglasses for exposed venues.
A refillable water bottle and your usual competition drinks.
Familiar light snacks—competition day is not the time for nutritional experiments.
Tissues, wet wipes and hand sanitiser.
Toilet roll. Never assume the stadium toilets will have any.
Plasters or tape for minor rubbing and blisters.
Your event timetable, venue details and coach’s contact number.
A notebook and pen for recording results, technical cues or changes to the timetable.
And yes—check again that you packed the pins.
DISCUS GRIP WARNING
Be careful how you make your fingers tacky.
