Discus Conditioning

Discus requires controlled rotation through the feet, hips and upper back. The core must transfer force while the athlete turns, changes support and remains balanced inside the circle.

Discus Considerations

  • Train rotation in both directions to maintain balance, even though the competition throw uses one direction.

  • Practise footwork slowly before adding speed.

  • Keep rotational power exercises short, sharp and technically controlled.

  • Develop balance on each leg as well as strength on two legs.

  • Avoid turning every rotational exercise into a maximum-effort throw.ssions.
